Cebu Bible College year-end update

We want to thank you for supporting us with prayer and financial support for another year. Because of what you generously give, the important work of minister training, evangelism, Church planting and discipleship continues in the Philippines. Your sacrifice for the Lord’s work here results in great things, and we are pleased to update you on what all God did this past year, through CBC and the church plants on the island of Cebu that were begun by CBC graduates.

Cebu Bible College Ministers Forum

Southside is sending Ron Matar and Kevin Wooten to Cebu in the Philippines to teach at the annual Ministers Forum at Cebu Bible College

Please pray for their safety and for the Lord to give them strength as they not only speak to all the ministers and students but also provide encouragement for all with whom they come in contact.

Cebu Bible College 2021 update

Greetings to all of you and thanks for your interest in and prayers for the Philippine ministry work and for Cebu Bible College.  The attached file is our year end update and you will see that 2021 was both a difficult year with the covid pandemic and the typhoon that hit the Philippines; but also a productive year at Cebu Bible College.  Please feel free to share this update with friends and church family members you think would be interested.

We ask for your continued prayers for God’s work at Cebu Bible College and in the Philippines.  And may God continue to bless you and your family throughout 2022 and beyond.

Philippines prayer needs & praises

Praise for the addition of Caleb Callari as assistant director. He has been at Cebu Bible College teaching since fall of 2019 and has been in Cebu since 2018. Pray for him and his family in this new role for which God has prepared him.

Prayers for all those who graduated earlier this year. Due to the pandemic, there were two classes (2020 & 2021) with 12 total graduates. Pray for them and the role the Spirit has for them in their lives.

Despite sometimes severe quarantine restrictions, the students at CBC were able to conduct their normal summer break fieldwork. They were able to minister to a relocated community of fishermen (relocation due to Hurricane Yolanda). They were able to conduct youth ministry with a VBS and acapella singing classes. They also conducted various forms of community service, and were able to assist in the building of a new church building along with leading weekly services and Bible studies.

Pray for lessening and an eventual end to COVID restrictions. This will allow the students to once again partner with churches for weekend evangelism during the semester.

Due to renewed COVID restrictions, there was no small amount of difficulty for this fall’s class of students to arrive safely at CBC’s campus. There is a large class of new students on campus (after 2 years of COVID limitations). Please, pray for these students as they begin their journey of learning more about Christ and how to better serve Him with their lives.

For this year’s incoming class there were a number of female applicants. Sadly, some of them had to be turned away due to limited housing. Plans are underway to convert space in one of the buildings on campus into more dorm space designated for female students. Pray for wisdom and funding to make this a reality so that CBC can better serve the women of the South Pacific who wish to attend CBC.

A household baptized

Despite the COVID impact, God has been at work through the alumni of CBC. In one example of the Spirit opening hearts, an entire household of 10 people were baptized into Christ and added to the church on the same Sunday. We praise God for His Spirit moving Christ into the hearts of new brothers and sisters. Pray for these new brothers and sisters in their daily walk with the Lord.

Restart

Several of the church plants that were started just about the time the pandemic hit are facing the need to completely restart from the beginning. Pray for these efforts to be fruitful as souls are led to Christ. Pray for the ministers involved in starting these church plants. Pray for God to guide their daily steps, to lift them up, and for the Spirit to use them for the benefit of the kingdom.

Praise and thankfulness

Praise and thankfulness for those who have financially supported CBC through the years.

  • Many have sponsored students ($150 per month) as they prepare for full-time evangelism.
  • Many have also supported CBC graduates as they become involved in church planting ministry ($250 per month).

Without the generosity of so many willing servants, the mission of CBC could not take place. Praise God for generous hearts!

While the COVID pandemic has affected all of our mission partners in many ways, it has been felt the hardest in the Philippines where the economic situation, the poor health care system, and the lack of government ability to cope with the crisis have affected God’s work in many ways.

Praise God for protecting the health of the students and staff at CBC and guiding them through these difficult times. Praise God for using CBC and its alumni to spread the Gospel throughout the South Pacific.

Pray for CBC leaders

Pray for the leadership and staff of CBC as they prepare for the challenges ahead. They continue to persevere despite COVID-related restrictions. They continue to face challenges in preparing for the growth of the college. They continue to face financial challenges brought on by the pandemic and the need to expand their facilities. They continue to faithfully serve God and follow the Spirit in making Christ known to those in need of knowing him!
